Kaduna State Government has extended its Open Government Partnership (OGP) State Action Plan III to 2027, in a move aimed at sustaining governance reforms and strengthening citizen participation.
The Commissioner for Planning and Budget Commission, Mukthar Ahmed, announced this during a validation meeting in Kaduna, describing the extension as a strategic decision to ensure continuity and align reforms with Governor Uba Sani’s SUSTAIN Agenda.
“The extension of the State Action Plan is a deliberate step to sustain ongoing reforms and ensure alignment with the priorities of this administration,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed, who also serves as the Government Co-Chair of OGP in the state, noted that technical teams had developed “realistic and impactful milestones” across key commitment areas.
“These milestones reflect both government priorities and citizens’ contributions. What we are doing here is to ensure that the final document is practical, inclusive, and results-driven,” he added.
Also speaking, the Citizens Co-Chair of OGP, Mubarak Abdulganiy, said the extension followed extensive consultations and emerging governance needs.
“This decision was informed by stakeholder engagements, including international consultations, which highlighted the need to protect ongoing reforms beyond the current leadership cycle,” he said.
Abdulganiy added that the forthcoming OGP Global Week in May would serve as a platform to expand advocacy and citizen awareness.
“It will provide an opportunity to engage the media and amplify citizens’ involvement in governance processes,” he noted.
The OGP Point of Contact in the state, Tara Jeremiah, emphasised the importance of measurable outcomes in the implementation of the action plan.
“Milestones are not just activities; they are measurable results designed to drive societal change,” Jeremiah said.
He, however, raised concern over limited participation at the grassroots level.
“At the moment, only Kaduna South Local Government is enrolled in the OGP framework. We need to expand this across all 23 local governments to deepen impact,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Kaduna State Media Corporation, Ben Kure, stressed the need for accountability and sustained commitment to reform.
“Engagements like this give us the opportunity to assess progress and reinforce our commitment to transparency and service delivery,” Kure said.
Stakeholders say the extended action plan will consolidate gains recorded in the past two years, while introducing new priorities aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and citizen-driven governance in Kaduna State.
