The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in collaboration with stakeholders in the book industry has donated books to Sultan Bello Primary School in Kaduna, as part of activities marking the World Book and Copyright Day.
The State Coordinator, Barr Rukkaya Muhammad Yeldu who was represented by the Head of Operations, NCC Kaduna Office, Barr. Abdullah Alfa Mohammed, made the book’s presentation to the Primary school to pupils aim to promote literacy and learning.
The Kaduna State Coordinator representative Barr Abdullah Alfa Mohammed called on Nigerians to cultivate a reading culture and respect intellectual property rights.
He explained that the day, set aside by UNESCO, is aimed at encouraging reading habits and fostering the growth of literature across societies.
Barr Alfa also warned against piracy and unauthorized use of creative works, stressing that such practices discourage creativity and undermine the publishing industry.
On his part, representative of the Kaduna North local government education secretary, Muhammed Sani Abubakar appreciated the NCC and other stakeholders for their support to the learners.
Speaking during the event, Elder Nnoroka said that members of the association donated a variety of educational materials, including novels, literature books, storybooks, and writing materials to students. According to him, the gesture was aimed at encouraging academic development and nurturing future leaders.
Elder Nnoroka stressed that education remains the foundation for personal and national growth, adding that the association’s guiding principle, “knowledge is power,” continues to inspire their commitment to supporting learning initiatives.
He further noted that investing in children’s education is essential, as they represent the future of leadership across various sectors, including governance and public service.
The association reaffirmed its readiness to continue contributing to educational development and promoting literacy as part of efforts to build a more informed and progressive society.
In a vote of Thanks, the Sultan Bello Primary School Headteacher, Hajiya Hajara Yahaya thanked all that contributed to support education in the school.
