The Kaduna State Government has commissioned a newly constructed Warehouse for Essential Medicines in Sabon Gari Local Government Area as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare commodities across the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani, said the project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the distribution of essential medicines.
According to her, “the establishment of zonal warehouses in Sabon Gari, Ikara, Kafanchan and Kachia is a deliberate intervention aimed at ensuring the timely availability of quality medicines to communities across Kaduna State.”
Dr. Balarabe noted that persistent challenges such as delays, stockouts and inefficiencies in the supply chain have historically hindered effective healthcare delivery, adding that the present administration is tackling these issues through targeted investments in infrastructure and system strengthening.
She further explained that, “decentralising storage and distribution will significantly reduce delivery timelines, minimise stockouts and ensure that medicines reach health facilities and patients promptly.”
In his remarks, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, commended the growing role of women in the state’s health sector, describing their contributions as impactful and commendable.
“We appreciate the state government for siting this facility in our domain. It will bring essential medicines closer to our people and improve access to healthcare services.” he said.
The royal father also urged the local government authorities to ensure adequate security of the warehouse to maximise its benefits.
Earlier, the Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Jamilu Albani, lauded the state government for its proactive interventions in the health sector.
He stated that, “these efforts will undoubtedly improve the well-being of our people and strengthen healthcare services at the grassroots level.”
