Kaduna Stakes Future on Auto Industry Growth, Says Sani By Muhammad Yahaya

Gov. Uba Sani

Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN), citing its contributions to job creation and economic development.

Sani gave the assurance while receiving the management of the company on a courtesy visit, noting that Kaduna’s business-friendly environment continues to position it as a preferred investment destination. He added that the state ranks among the top performers in Nigeria’s Ease of Doing Business index.

The governor disclosed that the Kaduna State Government holds about 11.7 per cent equity in DPAN, stressing that this stake underscores the need to ensure the company’s growth and sustainability.

According to him, DPAN has generated about 1,000 direct jobs, with several others benefiting indirectly from its operations.

Sani further stated that the state is strengthening infrastructure, particularly in transportation, with plans underway to introduce a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system—expected to be the second in Nigeria after Lagos State. He also revealed that one ultramodern bus terminal has been completed, while another is nearing completion.

On investment inflows, the governor said Kaduna has attracted about $3.5 billion in local and foreign investments, with $743 million already realised and $2.76 billion in the pipeline.

Earlier, Managing Director of DPAN, Ibrahim Issa Gachi, urged the state government to prioritise locally assembled vehicles in its official fleet and public services. He also called for broader adoption of DPAN vehicles across other states.

Gachi proposed strategic collaboration with the Kaduna State Government on mass transit and mobility projects using the company’s vehicle range.

He further disclosed plans to expand operations with the introduction of new brands, including Citroën, Fiat, and Leapmotor into the Nigerian market by 2027.

The expanded lineup, he said, will feature sedans, SUVs, buses and micromobility options powered by petrol, diesel, compressed natural gas and electric systems.

Gachi also revealed plans to introduce advanced Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs), combining electric propulsion with a backup internal combustion engine.

He concluded by inviting Governor Sani to formally unveil the 2026 Peugeot models at the company’s Kaduna facility within the next four weeks.
