Kano approves health insurance coverage for inmates

Inmates in Kano State’s custodial facilities will now benefit from health insurance coverage after being enrolled in the State’s Healthcare Contributory Scheme.

This will provide inmates with access to both basic and comprehensive healthcare services while in custody.

The announcement was made during a visit by Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KACHMA), to the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa. The visit was reported in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa.

The commissioner assured the controller of the state government’s commitment to providing medical support for all inmates during their incarceration.

The controller expressed gratitude for the state’s support, noting that this initiative would motivate inmates to become productive and law-abiding citizens upon release. He emphasized that the health and medical welfare of inmates are crucial for effective custodial management, as well as for their reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.
