The Military High Command has described Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist and bandit leader, as a “dead man walking,” underscoring its unrelenting resolve to neutralize him and others like him.
Bello Turji, infamous for his reign of terror across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger states in northwestern Nigeria, was the focus of remarks by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing in Abuja. The briefing detailed the military’s operations against terrorism in 2024 and its successes in eliminating threats to national security.
Maj.-Gen. Buba highlighted that the existence of terrorists perpetuates conflict, emphasizing the necessity of their destruction to achieve lasting peace in Nigeria. “Terrorists thrive on war, and for peace to prevail, they must be eradicated. We are committed to intensifying our operations to dismantle their enclaves, hideouts, and strongholds,” he stated.
The general outlined the military’s significant achievements over the year, including the neutralization of thousands of terrorists and their commanders. He assured Nigerians that current terror leaders, such as Bello Turji, would not evade justice.
“Let me make it clear: Bello Turji is a dead man walking. His fate is sealed, and he will soon follow the path of others who have been eliminated this year,” Buba declared, reaffirming the military’s commitment to defending the nation.
To reinforce his point, Buba listed the names of prominent terrorist leaders killed in 2024. These included Halilu Sububu, Dutse Mainasara Idda, Mallam Saleh Umaru, Mohammed Amadu, Abubakar Musa, Adamu Tanko Ibrahim, Yellow Dogon Rakumi, Isiya Boderi, and Alhaji Baldu. Others on the list were Usman Modi Modi, Kachalla Halilu, Kachalla Tukur, Amir Ibrahim Bukar, Saidu Hassan Yellow, Buba Kachalla Bukar, Bakura Jega, and Abba Tukur, among several others.
Buba also noted that the military’s intensified operations had not only decimated terrorist ranks but had also forced many leaders, combatants, and their families to surrender. He stressed that the military would continue to defend Nigeria against terror attacks with overwhelming force, ensuring security and delivering tangible benefits to all Nigerians.
“This relentless campaign is about more than eliminating threats; it is about restoring peace and ensuring the stability of our nation. We will not waver in our mission to protect our citizens and preserve Nigeria’s sovereignty,” Buba concluded.
The military’s achievements and ongoing efforts send a strong message to terrorist leaders like Turji, reinforcing the government’s determination to end the insurgency and restore normalcy in affected regions.
