The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of German tactician Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
Labbadia, born on February 8, 1966, in Darmstadt, Germany, has a rich coaching experience, having managed top German clubs like Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart. He holds a UEFA Pro License and has previously coached VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, and Bayer Leverkusen, among others.
The 57-year-old becomes the 37th Head Coach of the Super Eagles and the sixth German to lead the team, following in the footsteps of Karl-Heinz Marotzke, Gottlieb Göller, Manfred Höner, Berti Vogts, and Gernot Rohr.
Labbadia’s immediate challenge is to lead the Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda in September. He will also oversee the remaining four qualifying matches in October and November.
The NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed the appointment, stating that the NFF Executive Committee has approved Labbadia’s recommendation by the Technical and Development Sub-Committee. The appointment takes immediate effect.
